The diameter and ellipticity of hair is determined digitally using the cross-sections of individual strands of hair under a light microscope or measured while rotating 360° by laser technology. It is possible to examine exactly the same hair before and after treatment in order to measure, for example, the hair strengthening or repairing effect of products.

Using a light microscope the penetration of hair colors can also be visualized. To do this hair tresses are dyed in a standardized procedure. Afterwards cross-sections of the hairs are prepared and the permeation of hair dye is documented by image analysis.
