Determination of the Cleansing Effect
Skin Washing Machine
With the aid of a skin washing machine the cleansing effect of skin and hair cleansers can be studied and compared in vivo under practical relevant but standardized conditions of use.
The skin washing machine developed by Institutes Dr. Schrader simulates a washing procedure like washing the hands by moving felt-covered washing arms back and forth on the skin.
Application of coloured model dirt and chromametric measurement of the skin colour, the degree of soiling and the residual dirt left on the skin allow quantification of the cleansing power.
By standardising and keeping all influencing variables constant, the cleansing power of many different test products can be compared or – for example during development, dilution series or different surfactants can be tested.
