Institute Dr. Schrader
Research
Creative Source of Pioneering Work in Skin and Hair Physiology
Research at Institutes Dr. Schrader has often been the starting point for development of new methods. The procedure is: first do research, then develop and test, and finally analyze.
Between the Sebumeter and ICL-S/H there lies not just 45 years of continuous, solid work but also 45 years of ideas and concepts for new skin and hair physiological measuring principles that today have matured worldwide into standard methods and instruments. Whether Corneometer or FOITS technology, Cutometer or NIR-RS, Institutes Dr. Schrader not only use cutting edge technologies but also are a constant source of new, practice-oriented methods and instruments for skin and hair physiological testing on volunteers and in laboratory.
Research projects are carried out as internal projects, in cooperation with universities and as projects funded in the context of the AiF (German Association of Industrial Research Communities “Otto von Guericke” e.V.). These can handle new raw material and new developments in the area of cosmetic formulation as well as efficacy testing of e.g. antioxidants or Remission Spectroscopy in the NIR spectral range. The Creachem GmbH is member of the FKI – the Research Association of the Cosmetic Industry e.V. – which is member of the AiF. The possibility of active co-determination of research projects is a given to all FKI members.
An especially impressive example of successful technological development work can be found in the area of sun protection. As early as the 1980s the Creachem GmbH was already questioning determination of the sun protection factor according to the German Industrial Standard (DIN) 67501 valid at that time. Institutes Dr. Schrader helped to prepare in 1994 the COLIPA recommendation for determination of the sun protection factor, a standard that has matured today to the globally recognized International SPF Test Method and ISO SPF Test Method 24444.
Institut Dr. Schrader Creachem GmbH is the scientific and technological core of this group of institutes. Findings and developments from Creachem GmbH enable testing and evaluation of the efficacy and compatibility of cosmetic and pharmaceutical products with ever more refined and advanced technologies and methods. Practice-oriented basic research thus provides the basis for consumer information on the efficacy and compatibility of cosmetic products. At the same time it gives the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries the basic knowledge they need to develop, test and evaluate new product ideas and so be able to formulate new and innovative products ready for use in the market.
